Medium : Collage
I am a fine artist, and have exhibited professionally for more than 25 years. I live in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY and work full time at Media Loft. See my paintings, collages, drawings and prints at http://www.nikkal.com/
My primary media is collage. I love touching, tearing and gluing paper. My life is about glue and getting things to stick, and, just like collage, it’s layered, textured and complex.
The history of collage is fascinating. Modern collage started in France in 1912 when Picasso glued a piece of wood grain wallpaper into one of his paintings. His intent was to create a pictorial enigma. Picasso’s invention led to a radical change in our perception of modern art. Artists were inspired to follow in his footsteps, to explore the materiality of paper with collage additions and other media in their paintings. Collage paved the way for all 20th century art movements, including photomontage, surrealism, and Dadaism.
Collage is very user friendly, and a great medium for artists who want to explore new ideas in their work. Media can include common, found materials as well as personal items and treasures. I teach collage workshops for adults and teens at all levels. Please see http://www.stuffthatsticks.com
